I am getting problems with md5 passwords by imap -imapd (for webmail) on SuSE 7.3. Hi Carlos,
in SuSE 7.3 Crypt is the default, in RedHat it's MD5 as far as I know. But you can change that in SuSE 7.3, too, read /usr/share/doc/packages/pam/README.md5 or the archives of this list.
