Which version? My gnu tar (SuSE 7.0) has the -l flag but it's not bzip2 related.
It's the letter "I" (capital 'i') and not "l" (small 'L'). # tar --help | grep bzip -I, --bzip2, --bunzip2 filter the archive through bzip2
