Does SuSe 8.0 have a built-in Honeypot Software? And if so, what is it called? Tried to set up dtk yesterday on another Mandrake Box and it didnt work out because of its using xinetd. Any help to this topic would be greatly appreciated!
I think there is no built-in Honeypot software. You can put a plain SuSE 8.0 (or somewhat else) with various network-services enabled on your network and look what happens. But be very careful and configure your network that nobody can use your honeypot when compromised to attack other systems. There a some good instructions therefor : http://project.honeynet.org/papers/ dtk is a little bit obsolete but maybe good for first tests. Have a look at http://www.tracking-hackers.com/ There is a list with various commercial and free products. I recommend to have a look at honeyd. http://www.citi.umich.edu/u/provos/honeyd/ Maybe this is what you looking for. -mael -- email: mael@m-ellinger.de -> www: http://www.m-ellinger.de GPG-Key: http://www.m-ellinger.de/output/mael.gpg Mitglied der Zwickau Linux User Group zLUG e.V. http://www.zlug.org
