Hello, that's it, but it works without setting the SUID bit on /usr/sbin/smbmount Many thanks Ruediger -------- Original Message -------- Subject: RE: [suse-security] mount sambashare with non-root-user Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 12:11:37 +0200 From: "Reckhard, Tobias" <tobias.reckhard@secunet.com> To: SuSE-Security_MailList <suse-security@suse.com>
... and I am able to mount this share as root and root is not the owner of the files.
AFAIK, root doesn't have to have any permissions, she can do anything she likes (unless you're on a compartmented or otherwise restricted, i.e. non-standard system).
BUT when I try to mount this as an user I get the error message: "cannot mount on /mnt: operation is not allowed".
Again AFAIK and from personal experience, you need to: * Set the SUID bit on /usr/sbin/smbmount and * have the mountpoint owned by the user in question.
