As a compromise: Allow root login ('PermitRootLogin yes'), but do require the use of a key (PasswordAuthentication no ... ). Next, setup keys for root that only allow the execution of specific commands.
By doing that, you disallow passwords not only for root but for everybody. If this is not what you want, you best set 'PermitRootLogin without-password' (see man sshd_config) to disable password-login for root only. Maarten -- When I answered where I wanted to go today, they just hung up -- Unknown
