There are two flavors of openblas: gnu-hpc and gnu-hpc-pthreads. You can get the serial version behavior with the latter by specifying OMP_NUM_THREADS=1 - see also README.HPC.SUSE in the packages doc directory.
also scalapack will need to be able to use any of them.
It should - by setting the environment so that the correct version is found. Is there anything missing? Cheers, Egbert.

Ok thanks, indeed there are two versions. I find it strange for pthreads version to react to the openmp variables.
