Having installed openSUSE 11.3 the system initially boots into 1280x1024 directly from the install process, as I would expect, but having first logged in as a user when the 'Switch Session' facility is used to start a second session and login as 'root' the display for 'root' is unstable, initially with raster lines flickering but then very quickly the display is not updated properly and extremely slowly to the point where it is necessary to kill the session as nothing responds. I initially noticed 'EDID checksum errors' in the file 'boot.msg' so I have tried booting with the 'nomodeset' option, that caused the resolution to drop to 1024x800, so I then created a 'xorg.conf' using 'Xorg -configure', that resolved the resolution issue but made no difference to the problem outlined above. During my review of the logs I noticed the message stating the card could not be found in the database, so I guess a bit of a problem. I have attached a number of files that I hope will help, if you have a work-around I would be really grateful. I hope I'm correct in posting to this address. Thank you for your assistance, kind regards David Bennett Hardware: ASUS M4A78-E motherboard AMD Athlon II x4 630 processor Hanns.g HC194D monitor Software Installed: openSUSE-11.3 11.3-1.82 installed from downloaded iso - standard install onto new H/Drive, only change to UK keyboard Installed all updates - currently installed kernel 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop x86_64
