Joined List - I have many ATI cards - What info can I provide to help?
Listmates, Still reeling from ATI shooting the middle finger at its customer base with R500 and earlier cards. I unfortunately have probably 1/2 dozen or so of the higher end cards 850XT, 850XT-PE, and a number of not so powerful 9600s, and an X1200. The primary card that gives me grief is the X1200 in my laptop. Currently I have it running compiz on openSuSE 11.0 (with fglrx) and on Arch Linux (with radeonhd). The purpose of this post is just to ask if I can provide any information that will help with the development of the radeonhd driver. It's like voting... You lose your right to bitch if you don't even go to the polls. So I'm hear, not to bitch, but to see if I can help in any way make the radeonhd one kickass OSS driver for ATI cards. I was amazed to see this project hosted by opensuse. Fantastic! Many will already know me from the user list there. If you don't, I have a server I can post any needed information that I have to in order to cut down on what gets sent to the list. If anybody would like logs, aticonfig info, dmidecode info, whatever from the cards I have, just let me know and I'll be glad to make that information available. Keep up the great work. On Arch, I have compiz 0.8.2.1 working fine with the radeonhd driver. Only issues are speed issues on window resize, etc., but other than that, the driver rocks. That's for the 1200 card too. From radeonhd side you should have already working all the things I mentioned (MS, EXA, Xv...). If something is not working for you,
radeonhd is just DDX driver, which means it's mostly responsible for mode setting, EXA acceletarion, Xv, suspending, VT switching. As radeonhd doesn't support chipsets R1xx-R4xx, you can use it only with your X1200 (RS690). For rest of the cards you should use "radeon" (xf86-video-ati). please report a bug. As owner of RS690 you should have more-or-less working 3D. There is however project of reworking whole 3D for radeon cards (radeon-rewrite). One of it's participant (Jerome) requested for testing that code especially on X1200/X1250: http://jglisse.livejournal.com/1822.html . It would be nice to help him with that. -- Rafał Miłecki -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Thank you Rafal for letting me know about the rewrite effort. I'll check there. At least the radeonhd is working well with the 1200 card even if redraws are a bit slow with compiz. Thanks again. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Just one more idea. Does your RS690 (X1200) have audio engine? If so and if you have access to some HDMI TV, you can try not-yet-applied patch: http://lists.opensuse.org/radeonhd/2009-04/msg00265.html which should let you transmit audio in HDMI cable. -- Rafał Miłecki -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
