Re: [radeonhd] xorg 1.5, x86 PAT and radeonhd errors

Hi,
I just have upgraded the xorg server from 1.4.1 to 1.5 with mesa 7.2. PAT is activated in the vanilla kernel 2.6.27-rc7. Since, the radeonhd driver 1.2.1 doesn't work anymore but ati driver 6.9.0 does. That's rather peculiar, I thought radeonhd was intended for an ATI HD 3870 video card not the ati driver one.
with a radeonhd module, Xorg now complains about,
(II) RADEONHD(0): Mapped IO at 0x7f47ddf7b000 (size 0x00010000) (II) RADEONHD(0): Mapped FB at 0x7f47ca087000 (size 0x10000000)
This looks like a very old driver version and a very old problem that has been fixed a long time ago. Please get a newer driver. Check: http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeonhd for information on how to do this. So can we have a new release, please? I guess there's quite few of us running distros which what to package versioned releases... /Anders (on gentoo) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Not kind of stable, packaged version. Use one from git. -- Rafał Miłecki

The git mesa, radeonhd libdrm packages work pretty well. I still don't have dri but xorg works faster and I can even switch to the VTs without to have to fear "that-black-screen-of-the-death-that-need-a-remote-terminal-in-order-to-kill-gdm". Thx :) I'm a bit sorry about the fact I could not have dri working. I'm waiting sooooo long. (EE) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIVersionCheck: drmOpen("radeon", "pci:0000:01:00.0") failed. (WW) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIPreInit: Version check failed. Disabling DRI. and (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so (II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0 So I suppose the git driver doesn't contain any extra alpha 3D support for the card. Also, I don't understand the following message about the non git radeonhd, (II) RADEONHD: version 1.2.1, built from non-git sources I'm sure it is or comes the magic from mesa or libdrm (from git too) ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

When the xf86-video-radeonhd build system cannot find the "git" program or the ".git/" directory in the source tree, you end up with this message. If you could update your git xf86-video-radeonhd to at least 4dcc6aa0 and send me the "The following helps debug" comment from src/git_version.h, we could start finding out why. -- Hans Ulrich Niedermann

I'm using gentoo and I have installed the xf86-video-radeonhd master branch as it is specified in the log file:
From git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-radeonhd 72feab0..4dcc6aa master -> master
The src/git_version.h output you asked is,
/* The following helps debug why we sometimes do not find ".git/": * abs_repo_dir="/usr/portage/distfiles/git-src/xf86-video-radeonhd" (should be "/path/to/.git") * abs_srcdir="/var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd-9999/work/xf86-video-radeonhd-9999" (absolute top source dir "/path/to") * git_repo_dir="/usr/portage/distfiles/git-src/xf86-video-radeonhd" (usually ".git" or "/path/to/.git") * PWD="/var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd-9999/work/xf86-video-radeonhd-9999" * srcdir=".." * working_dir="/var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd-9999/work/xf86-video-radeonhd-9999/src" */ /* No git repo found, probably building from dist tarball */
Anyway, as long as xorg doesn't rely on what src/git_version.h returns it doesn't harm anyone. The git "eclass" which gentoo ebuild relies, does just not fit the /path/to/.git logic .
