In the preliminary code for TV Out found on git repository, it seems to be assumed that the TV is connected in a TV-specific connector:
src/rhd_monitor.c: else if (Connector->Type == RHD_CONNECTOR_TV) Monitor = rhdMonitorTV(Connector);
Can't rhdMonitorTV() be called on a VGA connector? There should be a way to determine if a TV is connected through a VGA to video component/SVideo adaptor.
The current code uses the connector table information which lists explicite TV connectors. An additional logic to handle TV over VGA would have to be added. Cheers, Egbert. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

AFAIK a VGA/component adaptor has to have additional electronics, and
should thus be handled like a general monitor. /me thinks.
Or is there a way to use sync_on_green so that G, B, R can be sent to
Y, Pb, Pr, respectively? I thought the 0 level is different for both
signals.

Dozens of these adaptors are being sold on eBay, and this is what the seller says: "It will work with laptops and desktops with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector." The adaptor e also very cheap, and does not seems to have any signal conversion circuitry. What I believe is that in some laptops it is possible to make the TV encoder send the video component signal through the VGA connector, and the adaptor deals only with the wiring. That said, I cold find no further readings about this feature, nor I could find the adaptor's schematics. -- Lucas Clemente Vella lvella@gmail.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Ok, this helps. Would be best if you could provide us with a link to an ebay auction with one of these. Frankly said, I haven't heard of them.

I couldn't find an ebay auction that had not already expired and been removed, but : http://sewelldirect.com/pc-to-tv.asp -----Original Message----- From: Matthias Hopf [mailto:mhopf@suse.de] Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 2:45 PM To: Lucas Clemente Vella Cc: radeonhd@opensuse.org Subject: Re: [radeonhd] TV out via VGA connector On Mar 25, 08 15:11:03 -0300, Lucas Clemente Vella wrote:

I very much assume that *this* one does contain electronics. At $38 it isn't exactly cheap.

I have one of these VGA to S-Video/video composite adaptor, and using a multimeter, I was able to determine its wiring, supposing it has no diode or other electronic component in the way (as it does not seems to have). -- Lucas Clemente Vella lvella@gmail.com
