0x9505:0x174B:0x2542: Sapphire HD 3850 Pro 256MB GDDR3 Dual DVI TVO PCI-E Graphics Card
Hi, My graphic card does not seem to work correctly with the RadeonHD driver. X displays fine, and everything looks good, However, when I move windows around the screen they seem to lag and stutter. I'm sending this email because the Xorg log instructed me to. I've attached my log, and conf file, and here is my lspci for the device. 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV670PRO [Radeon HD 3850] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: PC Partner Limited Device 2542 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at fe9e0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] I/O ports at c000 [size=256] Expansion ROM at fe9c0000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 3 Capabilities: [58] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00 Capabilities: [a0] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Capabilities: [100] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0001 Rev=1 Len=010 <?> 01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3870 Audio device Subsystem: PC Partner Limited Device aa18 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17 Memory at fe9fc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 3 Capabilities: [58] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00 Capabilities: [a0] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Capabilities: [100] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0001 Rev=1 Len=010 <?> Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel I'm running the latest Debian Testing (kernel 2.6.32-3-amd64). I assume your kernel is too old.

Thanks Matthias, I didn't realise those lines of the error message were important. A quick search has shown me that I just needed to "apt-get install firmware-linux" which seems to bring in the Atom Bios rom, and now everything works fine. thanks Andrew -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
FYI only, the firmware-linux package actually brings in microcode which runs on the GPU chip itself; the AtomBIOS ROM is stored in a ROM on the card and runs on the CPU.
