Hello! I'm seeing black screen with latest radeonhd from git. I have compiled driver using instructions from here http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon and checking out and building also radeonhd driver. Log and X11 configuration are attached. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope. Thank you for all your hard work! Ups, sorry, wrong xorg.conf was in previous email. Victor Vlasenko wrote:

Has it worked before? If yes, a git bisect could help. Possible that I
did something stupid with power management, but somehow I doubt so.

That is the same model I use, and it uses an RS600 GPU. It has never worked for me with radeonhd, it always reports the same problem: "MC not idle". Some time ago I wrote here about the issue and I said I would try to help, but time is my enemy right now and I haven' t done much. best regards, Dariem -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Hi Matthias, Dariem! I have tried to build various radeonhd version and launch xorg 1.6 with DRI "on". Here is the results: 1.2.0 - not builds 1.2.1 - not builds 1.2.2 - builds, black screen 1.2.3 - builds, black screen 1.2.4 - builds, black screen latest git - builds, black screen I remember that in Ubuntu 8.04 the radeonhd worked fine with xorg 1.5 and DRI "on", also it worked fine with OpenGL applications. The xf86-video-radeon works with xorg 1.5/1.6 and DRI "on", but in some OpenGL application the screen gots messed up due to object track showing (well I don't know how to explain this in english). Radeonhd didn't have such problem, that's why I'm interested in using radeonhd driver... Dariem Pérez Herrera wrote:

Yup, I want to hack at it too :) Could you point me to some hacking guide for radeonhd? Or give a couple of pointers, how could I localize and solve this issue? 3D is handled by a separate 3d driver in mesa, so this is likely a mesa bug rather than ddx bug. You might try a newer 3d driver. There have been significant improvements there since the last mesa release. Yup, but I wrote that I'm building latest versions of all drivers using instructions at http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon with building also latest git radeonhd driver. The other thing is that xf86-video-radeon driver actually works with DRI "on". So if this is a mesa bug than both drivers should have failed... The rendering errors ("screen gots messed up due to object track showing") are related to the 3d driver. Whether or not you can enable the dri is a ddx issue. Alex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Victor, please just make sure that you don't have any fglrx artifacts lying around.
I had similar problems a few days ago. After I installed fglrx I only got a black screen from radeonhd. Even blacklisting the kernel module didn't help. Didn't had enough time to get to the bottom of the problem, but radeonhd finally worked again after I uninstalled fglrx completely.

:-) A complex issue. There is no guide nor official documentation. What I was doing: studying radeon and radeonhd source codes and see what clues I could obtain from the first to implement in the second. AFAICS, both use MMIO to access GPU registers' addresses, so it seems it can be done. Till now, I think there are some problems with addresses pointing to RS690 registers instead of those of RS600 (rhd_regs.h). Someone said RS600 uses the same addresses R5xx does, with a minor difference, but I haven't checked it out. If you have the time...well, good luck. best regards, Dariem -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
