0x9610:0x147B:0xA705: Abit A-S78H mobo with 780G
Dear developers
This email is a result of the comment in my Xorg.0.log, attached. I also
attach my Xorg.conf.
I have recently rebuilt my machine and it is now the Abit A-S78H mobo
with 780G north bridge (HD 3200 graphics) with 4850e CPU and SuSE 11.0
(it was Abit KV8 Pro mobo, Radeon 9200SE discrete AGP graphics card,
Sempron 3000+ socket 754 CPU on SuSE 10.3).
The new config has much poorer video performance than the old and I
guess something is 'wrong'. In short my video picture is worse than
before and the CPU usage when playing video seems much higher. I hope
you can help identify any problem - I hope I can help with any other
information you may need. My skills do not include kernel builds, but I
can find my way around YaST and the file system and log/config files.
Some more description of my explorations and symptoms with this config is:
Symptoms: DVD playing in Kaffeine/xine – good video but high CPU (over
30%). Only workable Videodriver in xine is xshm.
DVB-T in Kaffeine – streak artefacts behind any movement, high CPU
DVD in MythTV – so slow about 2 frames/second! (audio OK)
DVB-T in MythTV – like DVD
Config: Abit A-S78H mobo (AMD 780G northbridge, Ati HD3200 graphics)
2Gb DDR2, 128Mb for graphics
19” LCD monitor, 1280*1024
Video driver: started with fbdev – realised it should be fglrx or radeonhd
tried fglrx 8.522 (Catalyst) – SaX2 stops working, screen not always
refreshed after sleep mode so ditched it
got radeonHD 1.2.1 – it bombed as no support for 780G
got 20080905 git version – loads fine, but no change in symptoms
(artefacts in TV, high CPU use)
My main concern is the comment in Xorg.0.log
RADEONHD(0): Direct rendering turned off by default. Use Option "DRI" to
enable.
Thanks for any help

Video playback acceleration is not yet supported for that line of cards, hence the high CPU usage. Depending on the media player, this can lead to poor performance or problems. The best suggestion I can offer you is to look at any MythTV tweaks for improving performance when Xv is not available. -- Yang Zhao -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
Thanks to Yang Zhao and Alex Deucher for prompt reply and explanations. A shame there is no 'quick fix' - I may give fglrx another go. Thanks again & best wishes Chris -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

There is currently no 2D, 3D, or video accel for r6xx chips (rs780 is r6xx based). Support is being worked on now, but has taken longer than expected. For accel you'll have to use fglrx for the time being. Alex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
