Thanks, your card hasn't wired up HPD, indeed. I have pushed a quirks table entry for this card.
While shuffling cables, I remembered that I have a KVM switch on the VGA (duh), so I also did:

Is there an option to override detection on VGA?
You can create a monitor section for the output, and add Option "Enable" in this monitor section. But you will have to specify the monitor by hand (HorzSync/VertRefresh/MaxClock). Eventually we will have to rethink the detection logic. Given the amount of grieve this has already caused us I doubt that there is a generic enough solution, though.
It flickers both with or without AtomBIOS. Sometimes the screen jitters to the right for a split second too. I tried a poweroff and cold boot but it doesn't change.
The vesa driver doesn't flicker. If it would help to check DVI voltages or timings on a scope, I can do that, but it will take me a few days.
No, that is not needed - instead register dumps might prove helpful, but
I haven't worked in that area, so I don't know which ones ATM...
