outgoing FTP not working
Hi, I discovered this program via google after having a need for outgoing FTP proxy. I have set the AllowMagicUser setting to yes and tried a number of different settting for the rest of the conf file, but as soon as i try use the ftp as a proxy in the ftp client it just disconencts me after teh USER@host. Also if i telnet to port 21 it gives me the welcome message, then i put in USER@host and then it disconnects the socket. The log just shows client connected and has no other data. I have tried versions 1.5 from the tarball and 1.7 from the rpm and they both do the same thing. What am i doing wrong? Does this even work for outgoing ftp? BTW, I am trying this on Redhat 6.2. Is that a big problem? Thanks dave ______________________________ solutionsFirst.net Consulting http://solutionsfirst.net Ph: (02) 9555 4847 Fax: (02) 9818 7711 Mob: 0413 022 143
Hi David, RedHat should not be a problem at all, I tested it. Version 1.5 did not have the feature, so you want to stick with 1.7. It looks like you know what you are trying, so would you like to send me your config file? Maybe I can help directly. Also, a log file might give more hints. Hey, this is the conf file i used. COmments removed _____________--- [-Global-] AllowMagicUser yes DestinationAddress localhost DestinationPort 21 DestinationTransferMode client Listen xx.xx.xx.xx ##(was the local internet IP) LogDestination daemon MaxClients 64 MaxClientsString The server is full PidFile /var/lock/ftp-proxy.pid Port ftp WelcomeString Welcome to Leechfest __________________ I have now used the ftp port for another ftp server (proftpd) but i can take it off ad put it back on... I really ONLY need it for outgoing ftp. If you have any idea how to do that it would be great. I did get my ftp clients to connect to the server on the correct port and I did get the Welcome to Leechfest message. So something was workign.. just it never got past that... I would send the user command and it wouldnt work. from the messages file : May 18 02:56:21 www ftp-proxy[3489]: TECH-WRN port 21 is in use... May 18 02:56:46 www last message repeated 5 times May 18 02:56:51 www ftp-proxy[3489]: TECH-ERR can't bind daemon to 21 (errno=98 [Address already in use]) May 18 02:57:29 www ftp-proxy[3498]: TECH-WRN port 21 is in use... (x's replaced) There was no futher messages between attempts. Those tech errs are me screwing things up. I did get it to start with no errors.. then it gave me those user-inf messages... after which nothing happned.. the repeated attempts are me trying differnt setttings on the client ftp program... And ideas? Dave
