[opensuse-project] openSUSE Participation in GSOC 2012 & Introducing myself
My name is Athanasios-Ilias Rousinopoulos (aka Zoumpis). Currently i am a first year Master Degree student , studying Free Software in King Juan Carlos University (Madrid-Spain, URJC). I live in Madrid in Spain but i come from Greece. Furthermore i speak 3 languages : Greek (as mother tongue) , English (Level C1) , Spanish (Level B2). I am a member of openSUSE Ambassador Team since April 2011 and also participated in conferences ,events (making presentation, booth staff , organizing events). Furthermore i have been the openSUSE Medical Project Coordinator (from July 2011 to November 2011) , i quited due to my Master Studies. During this period i did use the SUSE Studio platform (so as to create appliances) and used KIWI as well. Untill now i am an active member of openSUSE Community. During my graduate studies i programmed into many languages (C, C++ , Java , PHP) but i found Python interesting as well. Furthermore my tesis was dealing with eyeOS Web Operating System (actually developing applications). After having a look at the ideas for this year and considering the fact that i found Python very interesting (actually i programm in Python more in than the other languages the last six months), i am very interested at the following ones : * Support for Bitbake in OBS - Although i don't have experience with packaging tools i have downloaded the openembedded documentation and installed all the appropiate packages. Currently i study the documentation and start making my own recipe(s). * AppStream: Reviews in software center * Upstream/downstream tracker In what refers at "AppStream " and "Upstream/downstream tracker" i have devoloped a web crawler in Python and i believe that Bitbake is also a kind of cross distribution collaboration tool. So i am interested in cross-distribution collaboration tools as well. On the one hand I will not say that i program like a guru or like a begginer on the other hand i can promise i will do my best so as to come up with the project. Furthermore my expirience untill now in the community and the Master studies in Free software as well will be helpful to handle and finishing the project in time. Finally i believe that participating in one of the projects above would be beneficial for the openSUSE Project and me as well due to the fact that i will improve my programming skills and develop a tool that will be usefull for the community.
