German members of the community may be well aware of European / German GAIA-X project (https://www.data-infrastructure.eu/), I think active participation in GAIA-X may help us strengthen the position of openSUSE in the newly established "big European Cloud", I wonder if we as members and board should discuss our options of becoming active participants in that effort? I am still going thru all the documents that are related to the project, but it seems as we are backed by European company there may be a very good options for us to both contribute and gain from the initiative, however it is unknown to me how / if we would be able to join without a legal entity (aka separate foundation). For now I propose to discuss the upsides and downsides, and if we agree that there are more upsides to being actively involved, we can try to approach them (the board would I suppose) and see if we can get somewhere without formalized foundation. What are your thoughts? -- Best regards / S pozdravem, BSc. Mark Stopka, BBA Managing Partner (at) PERLUR Group mobile: +420 704 373 561 website: www.perlur.cloud

Well, in life sciences (bioinformatics of all sorts) participate in ELIXIR https://elixir-europe.org/ which is rather network of (mainly) academic institutions coordinating infrastructure to share resources, take care of data, train, etc. There the participation is straightforward. But I wonder how should/could/would (open)SUSE participate in GAIA-X...? What would be openSUSE's role? Technological platform? IaaS? More deep technological developmental participation? How could openSUSE and individuals around contribute and what would they get? -- Vojtěch Zeisek https://trapa.cz/ Komunita openSUSE GNU/Linuxu Community of the openSUSE GNU/Linux https://www.opensuse.org/
