[opensuse-project] Membership status
Hello everybody! I'll make it short… although this seems to be a never ending story. Some time ago I tried to become an openSUSE member. Due to contradicting information that was rejected. I didn't provide the requested information in the right place. I fixed that and re-applied. That was a few months ago. Since then connect.o.o tells me this: "Membership request already sent. Please wait for the result." I have the feeling that the whole membership application system is severely broken. But I really, really hope that it's only broken in my case. Because I don't think that other people would suffer through this! Cheers Jochen https://connect.opensuse.org/pg/profile/brejoc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

at least to the technical point I have to agree. The membership team just sees a queue of requests and processes it. If insufficient information is provided people (have to) downvote the application and reject it. Apparently though after an application is denied (with a reason that the information was insufficient) and the information is updated it is sorted into the system with the old votes and comments. So due to that it's quite hard for the membership team to find that there is a change at all. Your application is shown (with the downvotes) and in case a team member declined he actively would need to recognize the update, and at least remove his old vote. So looking at your application there are still two downvotes from the time where the information was not given. So the process does not allow to accept your application. Still when looking deeper into it those downvotes should have been reset but this is not technically the case. Also only team members can remove their downvote actively. So the main issue is that the tooling does not really allow to recognize this situation directly but only with all the context around it. Since we were hoping we would have had the openSUSE Accounts implemented by this point, alongside the Matrix server launch, the Mailman 3 migration and Connect decommission, but none of this happened due to SUSE Community accounts, I'm afraid we might be stuck with Connect method for a while longer. The accounts system was supposed to be used as a way to add and store membership info, which would have allowed us to use it in other applications via existing integrations. So is someone going to step up and make a proper review and issue a new status to Mr. Jochen Breuer's request as that has not been indicated. He seems to be interested in this rather than the underlying reasons. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

No, the review has to be done by the membership reviewers. The heroes do not decide who is to be a member. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

he complained about the process mainly. Otherwise it wouldn't have been anything to discuss on the project mailinglist? At least that is how I understood it. His personal request it was accepted meanwhile. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

That does not count only for Jochen hopefully. There are waiting more Contributors for their Membership status who are part of the community since many years. Best regards, Sarah

Stefan Dirsch as an example. I know that about some Translators, too.
Thanks, vinz.

Wrong as well: There is only *one* German translator's application pending. His first *substantial* contributions date from end of May 2020. you both need to stop the bickering, or take it off-list. neither of you cite specifics but dwell in innuendo. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Sarah stated some valuable information which I corrected after checking with membership officials. I cited Stefan's connect profile where the membership status can be seen. I don't get why you (once again) choose personal attacks on this list. vinz. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

there was no ?attack? but only in your mind. But you have now made an attack against me! and w/o reason! just to continue bickering. there was no 'bickering' - up to now.
neither of you cite specifics but dwell in innuendo.
Just the opposite is true - by checking back with membership officials Vinz clarifies some statements made. End of discussion (from my end) Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
