[opensuse-project] [boosters] WIP: openSUSE Firefox Start Page
Hi, at git@github.com:rlihm/openSUSE-Start-Page.git (open blank.html !) you can find what we have so far as a proposal for a new browser start page for the openSUSE distribution. Currently there is only the 'net-version', no support for 'disconnected' computers. Please give us some feedback about the general appearance and the link collection. Does it meet the goal to five people a good and attracting start to openSUSE? What do you think? regards, Klaas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

On my laptop with a resolution of 1024x768 I see only the headings "openSUSE Explained " and "Experienced Users " at the bottom and have to scroll for the rest. I would love to have less whitespace so that my screen shows the complete stuff. Otherwise: Great! thanks, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger aj@{suse.com,opensuse.org} Twitter/Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
Thats Great, but if the search bar could be a bit more above that is crop the top portion of images_local/geeko* so that the 2 rows fit perfectly on my laptop, but this is not a major requirement I guess. But I really love it.. :) On Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 6:59 PM, Andreas Jaeger <aj@suse.com> wrote:

Even with a resolution of 1440x900, I can't see everything and I can scroll (although what I'm missing is just the footer). I'd +1 a change where there'll be no scrollbar. But I like it! Brilliant! Here is what it looks like on my box (Firefox): http://min.us/mJwQp9LM1 IMHO it should have a link to planet.opensuse.org somewhere, as it's the most prominent source of information, and also one of the most followed pages. But we should carefully choose which links we put in there, as too many would just make it too crowded (and hence useless). cheers -- -o) Pascal Bleser /\\ http://opensuse.org -- we haz green _\_v http://fosdem.org -- we haz conf

Great! I really love the site. It´s kinda like that with what I came up a few weeks ago. Thank you, it really looks great (maybe need a bit of polishing, like AJ already told) but I really like it! No, it needs to be there, because "openSUSE" and the geeko are registered trademarks of Novell (or SUSE, I don't know whether the trademarks have been transferred (yet)). But the (c) Novell or SUSE should only be there for the trademarks of "openSUSE" and the geeko, not for a copyright on the work itself :) (that should be under CC-something, I guess) cheers -- -o) Pascal Bleser /\\ http://opensuse.org -- we haz green _\_v http://fosdem.org -- we haz conf

depends on *who* hold the copyright and trademark. Mmmm yah, I don't like the "in your Box!" text either. Why? Well, it's a phrase that could be "misinterpreted" by some people. I spend a lot of time in my day-to-day job trying to make sure that text in software interfaces has as little accidental slang as possible.. you know where a word or phrase is entirely innocent in one dialect, but makes the immature among us snicker when coming at it from another dialect, or even worse, in another language ( http://www.i18nguy.com/translations.html a bit over the top compared to this, but it still illustrates the point well ). This phrase would probably fail that test. The standard openSUSE catch phrase "Have a lot of fun!" is better, and more consistent since you see it elsewhere in the distro. Alternatively... "in your computer" or? "on your computer" or? something else? I guess it depends on what the intent of the "in your Box!" actually is. Or we could just leave "in your Box!" :-) Otherwise, it looks great. Nice and clean. A small tweak for netbook resolutions and I think it's a massive step up from previous. Me too, I prefer using "Have a lot of fun" or "openSUSE - Linux for open minds" (see my signature). Anyway.... I guess we´re starting a bikeshed[1] here, so we might just leave the initial creators alone to find a solution? I guess that they know best :-) kind regards, --kdl [1] http://blog.jospoortvliet.com/2011/09/bikeshedding-and-cls.html -- -o) Kim Leyendecker /\\ openSUSE Ambassador, openSUSE Wiki Team DE _\_v http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

(I didn't read other people feedback on purpose, to not tain my own feedback) : -we should state the search is "powered" by Google -top navigation bar is centered, unlike nav bar on various openSUSE website -do we want "login / sign up" in this page ? -translation of the page ? ;) Otherwise, it looks good. -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

it is cool. I do wonder if we shouldn't add dynamic content, like a news/blog feed, or at least a link to those. And (links to) social media... Cheers, Jos
