Please see below the Meeting Minutes of the openSUSE Board. We welcome any feedback and recommend to use the opensuse-project mailing list so more people can participate. As always the openSUSE Board is reachable through board@openSUSE.org May 20, 7-9pm UTC Participants: Michael Löffler (michl) Bryen Yunashko (suseROCKs) Pascal Bleser (yaloki) List of topics: *Foundation We'll investigate more into the creation of an openSUSE foundation. We reached out already to Novell how they feel about and received positive feedback. The foundation at the beginning should be a more independent body then openSUSE is today and should make it easier to collect donations in a transparent way to use directly for community efforts. *Expanse spotlight.o.o to Board Members All openSUSE Board members will have access to spotlight.opensuse.org to post/blog there. *openSUSE Membership requests The membership requests still are a pretty manual process. We imported out of users.opensuse.org another bunch of requests and are in the process of evaluation. But we need to admit we could have been faster with that. *Status of "ambassador program" The Ambassador program will be announced soon by zonker (meanwhile happened *Add features to openFATE without being member? During community week the request was stated several times to make it possible to add new features for non-members as well. We had a discussion about it and the Board recommends to make this request happen as we think there are more up then down sides. Is there infrastructure missing? Would it help to add some web UI for managing membership requests? -- Cornelius Schumacher <cschum@suse.de> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

There are a lot of features missing for users.o.o. Membership management for the board is one of them yes. Would you be willing to hack it? Please say yes! :) Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. I might be able to put in a bit of time. No promise yet, though ;-) Is there a Wiki page with a list of missing features or something like that? -- Cornelius Schumacher <cschum@suse.de> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Cool!
Is there a Wiki page with a list of missing features or something like that?
Not that i know of no. I can come by and tell you what we would need to membership management :) Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Probably better to put it on the wiki or somewhere everybody could see the wishlist. During my time on the board, I came up with the following list - I'm not sure what the current board things about it, it might be a start... Enhancements for users.opensuse.org Goal: Make users.o.o a central profile place for opensuse.org, where users could have for example a mention of what they're involved in, maybe a picture, viewable contact details, etc. Something like: https://launchpad.net/~jonobacon Detailed requirements: * Upload of gpg keys (prio 1 - needed for voting) * openID integration * photo of developer * contact details (prio 1) * coordinates for openSUSE map * involvement of user in the project (prio 1) * quick jump for logged in user to "their" other profiles like forums profile Implementation idea for membership handling (prio 2) * coupling with hermes for notifications: - board gets notified daily about new members - mail, blog, irc admin gets notified daily about changes - member gets notified once application is approved and everything is setup * adding discussion field for voting process (for members to modify and read but not for member to see) * for each board member a separate voting queue: - Each member has a Yes (+1), No (-1), Abstain (0) vote - board member has own queue that shows members that are not voted by board member (and have not been rejected/approved) - member is automatically approved if sum is 3 or higher * reject queue: Needs to be handled by one board member that will do the final reject (after adding the reject message), accessible by everybody. Applicants will end here under the following conditions: - 2 votes and sum == -2 - 3 votes and sum < 1 - 4 votes and sum < 2 - 5 votes and sum < 3 * public information for the requester that he knows the state of the application (pending, accepted, refused) the reason why it has been refused "reject message" and the setup state of blog, irc cloak, mail alias. * additional NEEDINFO state where board can ask the member to refine request or add further information. -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform / openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

During my time on the board, I came up with the following list
All this is fine, but mixes a lot with the infrastructure discussion. I would like to keep this a simple task. We failed long enough to find someone to hack on it. There are two things we would need for MM: * 5 states of an application * New * To be Accepted * Accepted * To be Rejected * Rejected plus the respective listings. * The voting field. (+1,0,-1) coupled with a free text field. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. By "insfrastructure" you mean WHAT exactly? The way the project is run? This type of information is ususally included included in an "About Us" link somewhere. It seems you could incorporate this in "openSuSE" navigation box that appears in the top left navigation box. Of, if by infrastructure you mean the website design, here are some comments, for starters... * I find the site, http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org really unfriendly to "new" users. * Before a user woudl want to download, it seems they would want to know a LOT more about the product: features, software included, system requirements, what hardware is supported, etc. Eventually, you CAN get to this information, but it is very difficult. So, this initial page needs work. I actually did think to edit it a while back, but with my login, I couldn't. So???? I would really like to help with this, but don't have the means to do it at the moment. * I guess my point is what do you feel your audience is for this first page? It seems mostly designed for people already familiar with the project/product that simply want upgrades or something, not new users. -- ============================================================ Kay Schenk "Great people and great athletes realize early in their lives their destiny, and accept it. I'm sorry but i fail to see how this is relevant to the discussion of missing features of users.opensuse.org which is our "directory service" for opensuse. You make valid comments but they belong to the opensuse-wiki list and not this thread. Please take them there. Thanks! :) Henne -- http://opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
