[opensuse-project] Marketing and 13.2
Disclaimer: this is not a rant, is a call to arms. We are quite close to the release of openSUSE 13.2. Looking at the state of Beta1 and RC1, I trust it's going to be a great release from the technical point of view, compared to previous ones. But a release is much more than just the software, and the comparison with previous releases is not so bright in other areas. openSUSE 13.1 was a GREAT HIT in the marketing area. Just take a look to all we achieved at https://progress.opensuse.org/projects/opensuse-13-1-release/issues/gantt?set_filter=1&f[]=category_id&op[category_id]=%3D&v[category_id][]=54&f[]=&months=3&month=9&year=2013&zoom=4 An insane amount of work brilliantly executed, including the press kit (absolutely invaluable), the sneak peaks (raising excitement every week) and much more. But what about 13.2? We had to delay the release of the beta because of the lack of an announcement! And we only had a draft for the announcement of RC1 the very same morning that it was released. We should all be extremely grateful to Kostas for taking over in both cases and coming up with the announcements, grabbing the information, coordinating the people and making it happen. What if we all try to go back to the 13.1 situation (with people pushing the developers asking for changes and highlights to feed the marketing beast) instead of the current one (with developers pushing in the mailing list to have an announcement published)? Greetings. PS.- Sending it to the project list because I don't feel it's just a matter for the marketing or news teams, but something the whole project should care about. -- Ancor González Sosa openSUSE Team at SUSE Linux GmbH -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Great, I've added you to the project. A pretty low hanging fruit to get started is the wiki https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/4150. Theoretically you can assign yourself to any task consider yourself capable for. Looks good, thanks! I think you can put a FIXME where the feature list is as the list for 13.2 still has to be created. What about the "In detail" section? Looks a bit empty compared to 13.1.

No idea. Try asking on the wiki mailinglist, maybe someone there knows the trick. But then, we still need 13.2 screenshots as well: https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/4062 When you are done feel free to set the task to 100% and close it. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

For 13.1 the "In Detail" section has links to lots of 13.1 specific things like https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Launch_parties . The lauch party page simply needs to be cleaned up to not contain old stuff anymore. Other pages like screenshots may need to be created as e.g. Screenshots_13.2. Thanks! I got it work after doing what you said. If you go on the portal page now you should see it flip through the screenshots I have uploaded. If anyone has anything else to add please don't hesitate and upload them! You should be able to add them to the flipper by creating a page for Portal:13.2/Screenshots/x where x is the number for your screenshot and then increasing the max=5 to whatever value you need in the Portal:13.2 page. You can also add them to https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:13.2/Screenshots which can be used to display all the screenshots we want from 13.2 without adding them to the flipper (note have not added captions for these but it is certainly possible if wanted). Yeah I noticed that when I was looking for information for the 13.2 portal page. If I understand what you are saying correctly you want to add the info from the beta announcement to this page? Assuming it is, I will try and do that tomorrow when I get time. Yes, it already had lots of valuable information about new features. Looks like noone filled it in :-) According to the release process documentation https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Major_features is the central starting point for collecting features. If you've already collected data for the beta announcement just put it there as well so whoever gets to write the press announcement has all information available. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I have switched out all the KDE ones and it looks like the GNOME and LXDE ones are done too (thanks for uploading guys!). So that just leaves XFCE, Enlightenment, Installer and the Booting sequence. Just a reminder that there are a couple links on the 13.2 Portal that still need to be added/created: - feature list - hardware requirements - reception - contents of release medias (just reuse https://en.opensuse.org/Media_layout ?) - release announcement - press kit Beyond that I think the Portal looks good to go but please do take a look and add/fix stuff if needed: https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:13.2 -- Regards, Uzair Shamim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

We are quite close to the release of openSUSE 13.2. Looking at the state of Beta1 and RC1, I trust it's going to be a great release from the technical point of view, compared to previous ones. An insane amount of work brilliantly executed, including the press kit (absolutely invaluable), the sneak peaks (raising excitement every week) and much more.
I am working on a sneak peek for GNOME on openSUSE 13.2, but this being my first article, I am somewhat in the dark regarding how to submit it as a news item and so on. Just seen the article on news.o.o https://news.opensuse.org/2014/10/23/sneak-peek-into-gnome-on-opensuse-13-2/. Thank you very much for taking the trouble to do this for me. There are a couple of minor issues: * The gallery images in the opening segment don't show up, therefore looking like some kind of bullet-points without much meaning * The image for calculator in gnome-shell search also does not show * Captions for all the images show up at the beginning of each relevant section like a pointless sentence (they do also show correctly alongside images). Would be most grateful if you could look into these minor issues. Hi Kostas!
It seems from the comments people are getting confused about the extra captions and missing images, could you please correct these minor issues? Thank you very much. -- Atri Bhattacharya Thu Oct 23 22:37:31 MST 2014 Sent from openSUSE 13.2 on my laptop. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
