Meeting minutes Board Meeting Monday 2022-12-05 13:00 CET
= Board Meeting Monday 2022-12-05 13:00 CET =
* Present: Axel, Gertjan
* Guests: Doug, Patrick
* Excused: Mau, Syds, Gerald
* Missed: Attila, Neal
== Proprietary software on OBS ==
* Recent discussion on buildservice list (https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/buildservice@lists.opensuse.org/thr...
https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/buildservice@lists.opensuse.org/thr... ) about Oracle client created more confusion than clarification
* Board should drive clarification, we need help from SUSE Legal
* Questions...Why are we as a project tied to US export regulations? Servers are in Europe, no legal form. We accept that our sponsors may be, but not openSUSE as a project.
* Doug to forward question to Cirian
== Budget 2022/23 ==
* Fiscal year just started
* Probably lower budget in current year, affecting sponsor activities, events and TSP
* percentage of cut nor date of confirmation unclear now
* (quite strange as SUSE wanted to push work on openSUSE)
* Budget potentially only for oSC, FOSSDEM, Guadec, AKademy, nothing additional including TSP
* SUSE Board ultimately deciding about Budget

It's complicated but in reality SUSE holds the openSUSE IP and operates in the US we also have Mirrors in the US which would be affected. It also has partnerships with many of its "Allied" Nations. But more importantly as of 2021 Export Control no longer applies to open source software using standard encryption protocols [1], this has already been raised as something we should change given the openSUSE EULA mentions that it is subject to export control when it no longer needs to be. 1. https://www.linuxfoundation.org/resources/publications/understanding-us-expo... -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
