[opensuse-project] Reworked Netiquette
Hello Mates, i've reworked our Netiquette [1] and have translated it to german [2]. Now my target is to make an regular (monthly) Posting to the Lists. I have prepared two Emails. One for the en Lists and one for the de Lists. But i would like to have an feedback for that idea. Is that good or should i don't do it? Get edit access to msg headers and remove the "References:.." line, alter the Subject: and you have a new thread. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Patrick, I know how it's done, I just want to know how I'd go about doing it in _knode_ (without having to bend myself backwards). Is there something I can click to enable editing References: ? /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, after looking at knode which I do not use for list mail, I see no apparent method using knode alone, remembering that it is *not* an email client. I also do not see a way in pan. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

I use knode together with my local news-server (into which I feed all list mail). It works very well except it's a bit of hassle to start a new thread based on a reply to an existing one. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
Hi Sascha,
i've reworked our Netiquette [1] and have translated it to german [2]. Thanks for working on that, I just flew over it and like it :-) It's a very important thing.
Now my target is to make an regular (monthly) Posting to the Lists. I have prepared two Emails. One for the en Lists and one for the de Lists.
But i would like to have an feedback for that idea. Is that good or should i don't do it? Hmm, I would not send it regularly. You know, if something happens regularly, people start to ignore it.
What we IMO should make sure is that - the "Welcome to the *-mailing list" message everybody receives contains a link to the Netiquette - and whenever people continuesly break the netiquette we point them to the articles in a friendly but clear way.
Thanks, Klaas

-- Sincerely yours Sascha Manns openSUSE Member openSUSE Ambassador openSUSE Marketing Team openSUSE Build Service Web: http://saschamanns.gulli.to Blog: http://saigkill.wordpress.com ClaimID: http://claimid.com/saigkill -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Agreed. I think it's very well put together.
What we IMO should make sure is that - the "Welcome to the *-mailing list" message everybody receives contains a link to the Netiquette - and whenever people continuesly break the netiquette we point them to the articles in a friendly but clear way.
Also agreed - it's always good for new people on the list to know the rules up front rather than having to learn them by breaking them. :-) Jim -- Jim Henderson Please keep on-topic replies on the list so everyone benefits -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Hi, thanks for rewrite the Netiquette. Can you add a important note about attachments to the Netiquette? Some people add a big attachment to the mail or send continuously log and config files. Other mailing users aren't exactly think this is great. Better using a Paste-Service like: <http://paste.phati.de/> <http://en.pastebin.ca/> See in our IRC-channel: !paste or !de-paste -- Kind regards Sebastian Important notes on openSUSE Mailing List: - Important: >>> Please don't use attachments! <<< Instead, use Paste-Service like: <http://paste.phati.de/> <http://en.pastebin.ca/> - Please read carefully the following wiki-page: <http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette> openSUSE Member (Freespacer) openSUSE Build Service Maintainer: - PokerTH (since Version 0.6.3) - p7zip (since Version 9.04) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
