Hi, I'm willing to work on [1], with a slight change on focus: - develop a 1:1 feature set Gtk+ version of smoltGui (which I don't think will take the entire gsoc) - work on usability (the current version asks to be run once as root - it could be handled prettier by gksu; ship only on executable with parameters for different actions - as seen in upstream TODO) - package it - build Qt and Gtk+ packages from the same sources (at first glance this seems feasible, qt bits are only in two files, the rest of the code seems frontend independent); - finally, but not the least important: bring some Debian/Ubuntu love I've already started on the last bullet, by packaging the latest smolt (pretty basic, but functional), and uploading to my PPA[2]. My question is: does it make sense to focus also on another distro (since this is OpenSuse's mentorship)? Looking forward to your feedback :) Alex [1] http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GSOC_2011_Ideas#GTK.2B_client_for_smolt [2] https://launchpad.net/~alexeftimie/+archive/ppa -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

We're of course always open to changes on focus :-) It generally means the student changes the project to be its own, which can be a good sign. [...]

If it helps make a tool accepted and used more widely, then that's something we can accept, sure. For this specific project, I think it wouldn't be the first priority; it can be a good idea for when everything else is done, though. Thank you for your answer, you are right, first I must see the client in shape, then investigate on the adoption. Alex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Hi again, Reading Carlos Goncalves blog posts from 2009[1], I was surprised to see that on my computer, in openSUSE11.4, smolt's Distribution tab shows nothing[2]. Is this a bug? I couldn't find a bug report on the matte, so I'm suspecting that his changes didn't make it to the repository. Do we want the Distribution tab there? Should it display the installed packages, or would it be better to be hidden, when no distribution specific data is available. Also, what other suse related information should be placed there? Thanks, Alex [1] http://cgoncalves.blogspot.com/search/label/smolt [2] http://swarm.cs.pub.ro/~alexef/smolt-suse.png -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
