[opensuse-project] oSC14 - the search for motto
Hi all, During our last (first) oSC14 IRC meeting, one of the conclusions is that we need a Motto. What are your thoughts and ideas the motto should be? The idea so far: "oSC14 the geeko kingdom" Svebor -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Ok he is my proposal for the motto and also something to give as food
for thought for our artists(BTW Andy look at the link below and adapt
your 3rd proposal in, should be awesome ;D )
'Growing Stronger' is the moto I would suggest. It is pretty symbolic
since we are not exactly changing but actually growing stronger and it
is related to Game of Thrones that had many of it's shootings in
Dubrovnik. The artwork can be in a medieval way that is the
architecture of the City that will host next years oSC.

Let me know your opinion on my proposal

"oSC14 Change"
I like the idea of incorporating "change" and I also like the connections Kostas mentioned. How about: "Growing Stronger Through Change" "The Strength To Change" "Question the status quo, Change!" "Changes for a stronger future" "Changes for a stronger community" "Continuous Change, Growing Stronger" Later, Robert -- Robert Schweikert MAY THE SOURCE BE WITH YOU SUSE-IBM Software Integration Center LINUX Tech Lead Public Cloud Architect rjschwei@suse.com rschweik@ca.ibm.com 781-464-8147 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Not sure if using themes-mottos from Game of thrones will cause us problem (copyrights). Don't know what happened using some for 13.1 release. Anyways, just a thought. Another "copy" from others is: Insanely growing /S -- http://about.me/iosifidis http://www.eiosifidis.info http://gnome.eiosifidis.info http://www.gnome.gr http://www.opensuse.gr Great leaders don't tell you what to do...They show you how it's done. I like change, but I'm not sure that it reflects what we're going to do at oSC. And the oSC motto and theme always reflected what we did: * oSC11 Motto: RWX³. Everyone is able to do everything. We emphasize doing things together instead of just talking. Theme: Retro, Old Factory * oSC12 Motto: Bootstrapping Awesome. We emphasized bootstrapping a new Linux event in the Czech republic. Theme: Urban, Big City, Prague monuments * oSC13 Motto: Power to the Geeko. We emphasized that this is the first oSC organized exclusively by us. Theme: Ancient Greece, Mediterranean Henne -- Henne Vogelsang http://www.opensuse.org Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

This is exactly the sort of thing I'm asking about for oSC14 - and I agree that while change is often a good thing, the motto needs to reflect what oSC14 is about rather than just be some words. Coming up with the motto before the theme is a bit of "cart before the horse" IMHO. My first reaction to a motto that emphasizes change is "so what's going to be different? What's changing, and why?" And for people who like where openSUSE is at, change isn't going to be seen as a good thing. A good motto should elicit a question that starts a conversation. given the discussions on project and factory *distro by the geecko* could be both a good motto and a good subject for the OSC14 :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Well I suspect that the changes we are currently talking about on -project and -factory will still be very current by the time we meet in April. These changes also provide a lot of opportunity for talks at oSC as I suspect we will be somewhere in a transition in the distribution by the end of April. That makes sense. I haven't yet taken the time to read over those threads (I anticipated that they would be fairly long, so I figured I'd wait until they slowed down to digest them). For some reason, it didn't occur to me that that might play into this discussion. :) Jim -- Jim Henderson Please keep on-topic replies on the list so everyone benefits -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
