[GSoC'23]:My introduction and some questions
Hello everyone, I am Ashutosh Pandey and I want to be a part of this year's GSoC program as a mentee. I am doing my Bachelor's in Computer Science at ABESIT Ghaziabad, India. I am interested in Dev-Ops and Full-Stack side of things and I have built many projects where I have utilized my knowledge. Now coming to GSoC, I came to know pretty late about GSoC and when I did I thought I didn't have the proper skills to apply for the program but seeing other mentees I thought that I must try this year. Now coming to the question part - How do I set up my development environment on my windows machine is there any guide or documentation? - I have WSL2 enabled and I'm using Ubuntu. - I want to work on this ( https://github.com/openSUSE/mentoring/issues/198) project, apart from the things listed in the get-started what else should I do? - can I contact the mentors directly? and take their advice on how to write the proposal for the project mentioned above. and also some development-related help. Thanks!
Welcome Ashutosh, Great to have you reach out to the mailing list. More of the devops happens on IRC and the factory mailing list (https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/). More below: On 2023-02-14 18:26, Ashutosh Pandey wrote:

It is probably best to reach out with the mentors and you'll want to look at the workflow that works best. You can fined openSUSE WSL info at https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:WSL I'm sure Ubuntu will also have some documentation available. Maybe someone else might comment on your questions though.

Not much more to do other than communicate with the person listing the project. Feel free to write the mentors directly on issue #198. They will write you back. We are still in the phase of the organization being evaluated and on Feb. 22, the openSUSE Project will find out if it was accepted to be mentor organization for this year's GSoC. The mentors can of course provide some guidance on submitting your proposal so that they way its written that it captures the intention of the project. email me if you have any specific questions at ddemaio@opensuse.org. I do the admin for GSoC. Have a great day. v/r Doug
