[opensuse-project] Online Bullying Tactics Waste Time
Some may say this is off topic, but I think it is on topic for the Project and for the Mailing Lists: To those who would resort to using my Board candidacy for online bullying tactics to try to silence me when I have a valid point(s), it is not only against the Guiding Principles, but it is a complete waste of time. Let me make it clear. I only offered up my Candidacy for the Board for three reasons: 1) I care about openSUSE and how it is governed; 2) There were only 3 candidates I was aware of who were running for 3 openings on the Board, all of whom would make great Board Members. I offered up my Candidacy (prompted by someone, and no, not knurpht) so that whoever made it on the Board would not simply have made it by acclamation, but would actually win by merit; and 3) I was prompted by someone who I have deep respect for, as I mentioned in #2, but the who is confidential. Personally, I do not really care if I am elected to the Board. All candidates are great prospects for the position, and I will be perfectly happy with any 3 of the candidates that make it, and will be thrilled for them. If I *do* make it, I will -- of course -- dedicate myself to the job and will bust my A.. to do the best job possible, but if not, I have many, many other things I would love to turn my attention to. So, do not waste your time with trying to threaten me over my candidacy. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Forum Moderator openSUSE Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Gerry Those are serious accusations as a member of the elections committee and responsible for those elections to run smooth I would like to provide me evidence or whatever else you have in order to say things like that. You can if you like provide me all that either publicly or privately, whatever suits you I am fine. I am a long term member of this community,an ex board member and something like that happened to me back in 2011 if I remember correct. Back then there were a few people that supported me and we had a happy end. I am telling you all that so that you know that first of all I personally know how to handle situations like that inside the community and that if you can give me some kind of proof I am 100% on your side. Needless to say that no form of bullying is acceptable around this community. Waiting for your responce Kostas 'Warlordfff' Koudaras .

What's the problem with the statement? And if he would care, what's the problem then? Not sure if, where and in which form bullying took place and what's the problem here, but it doesn't shed a good light on the community. Thank you, Kostas. I like this statement, Matthias. ... and to all others on this list, the matters that prompted this thread have been resolved satisfactorily, along with apologies that felt sincere to me and removal of the material. Most did not really realize what they were doing. And, thanks to Kostas, I now know a better way of dealing with it instead of with a public post like this. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Forum Moderator openSUSE Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks Kostas for your supportive words. I wanted to reach Gerry personally on IRC to support him, but I'm glad you did it, even as openSUSE election comittee member. I want to say out loud as well that bullying is not acceptable in this community - Gerry, don't let it just be. Kostas, I (and I think it would be fair for rest of the community) would like to hear the result of your investigation of this matter. I expect something like: * Gerry was bullied, conflict resolution was passed to openSUSE board * you don't share Gerry's point of view Thanks in advance, Tomas

Hey Tomas No investigation was made, Gerry contacted me and told me a few things of how he alone finally solved it but as he wanted to keep things in private, I feel I am not authorized to give any more information on this matter. Just to be honest and not make things bigger than they really are, what I offered to the situation was public support and some nice words.
I expect something like: * Gerry was bullied, conflict resolution was passed to openSUSE board * you don't share Gerry's point of view
I am really sorry I cannot give you that. I took his word for it judging by his contributions .I felt that normality was back at the elections procedure so for now my work stops there. I did what I thought I had to do for now, if the board wants to step up or if someone feels that something is not right here and wants some further explanations...Do what thou wilt. Kostas
Thanks in advance,
Tomas
