I thought we managed to get a "None of the above" option introduced a couple elections ago? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (0.2°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Given everyone gets THREE VOTES (one for each board seat), then a 'None of the above' vote would be fundamentally flawed - you could vote for 2 people plus 'None of the above' - which would be paradoxical Also, if 'none of the above' received more votes than any of the top 3 candidates, I very much doubt the conclusion would be a 5 person board So I think the Election Committees decision to not provide that option was a sensible, practical one The 'None of the above' vote is basically just a protest vote - Protesting for the sake of protesting isn't really that productive. Don't protest - do something about it - There was a phase for nomination, where everyone could have put forward people they DO want for the Board. The 5 candidates are the ones who were either put forward, or put themselves forward. If you are an openSUSE member who doesn't want any of those 5 people on the Board, then do not vote for any of those 5 people on the Board (and then please consider nominating someone you DO want next time) Regards, Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I'm guessing that if a member deosn't vote is a non act for his membership (like yeah I'm the minimum active and vote once a year) So the none above is perhaps not well spelled as you explain. I'm agree with the all other arguments :-) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I know thats your opinion But the project currently doesn't operate under the principle of 'you must vote to remain a member' Therefore abstention is a perfectly valid solution to the problem of members who do not wish to vote for any of the 5 standing candidates -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

There's a word for that: "abstain". Just don't vote.
No, those two are not the same. Any who doesn't vote isn't counted and doesn't care. Someone who votes "none of the above" is counted and cares, but just didn't find any of the candidates interesting or suitable. /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (-0.2°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Wheras you're right that there is a difference, it is not really relevant for this voting mecahnism employed here. The only effect it has is when the voting is setup than any candidate needs to reach a certain voters percentage threshold, as then 'blank voters' count for something but do not assign the vote to a candidate. As we 'just' promote the candidates with the highest vote count to be board members, an empty casted vote does not have any difference to a not casted vote. Thus, I don't think we have to make our life more complicated than needed. I've just been reminded by Carlos that we've been here before (e.g. in 2012). I just thought it had already been agreed, but apparently not. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I cant seem to find this posted anywhere on news.opensuse.org. Assuming I am not being careless, wouldn’t it be good to post it there too? -- Regards, Uzair Shamim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
