[opensuse-project] oSC14 location proposal

Hi guys, I'm writing on behalf of HrOpen (www.open.hr - Croatian association for open systems and Internet), a Croatian NGO, where I am the president, and my day work is at FER (http://www.fer.hr/en) - Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, as an Internet services architect. I started using SuSE with version 8.2. This is not a full proposal with details and prices yet, I haven't had time to prepare it since we were shoulder-deep in organization of our jubilee 20th open source and free software conference DORS/CLUC (http://2013.dorscluc.org/en/) 15th - 17th May, which we traditionally organize in cooperation with another NGO - HULK - Croatian Linux users' association. Some more info on our conference: - http://joinup.ec.europa.eu/news/croatian-president-supports-free-software-co... - http://joinup.ec.europa.eu/community/osor/news/croatias-president-praises-cr... In short, we would like to propose Dubrovnik for oSC14. The conference would be held at University of Dubrovnik, we have contacts there with which we would collaborate. In addition to ~10 volunteers from our organizations, I also expect students from Dubrovnik to register as volunteers for on-site conference support. I will gather and systematically arrange more info throughout the next week and get back to you, but I would also like to know if you guys are initially interested. :-) Best regards, Svebor Prstačić -- Google: https://plus.google.com/115164814659638687195/ Skype: sveboras Web: http://www.fer.unizg.hr/svebor.prstacic -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Svebor, Thank you for your interest in organizing oSC 14. Some questions and comments below. On 05/28/2013 06:12 AM, Svebor Prstačić wrote:
Yes, we are in general terms interested and appreciate your interest in organizing oSC14. In 2014 we would like to move the conference to an earlier time in the year, to avoid travel premiums in the summer and avoid conflicts with other events. Do you see any issues/conflicts with this, considering that you already organize an event in May (presuming you will have your existing event again in May next year)? Having a potential location and volunteers lined up is a great start, can you provide more information about Dubrovnik? It will be important that oSc is it's own event. We had a co-located event for oSC12 which resulted in a large number of people attending. However, many in the community felt that the message about openSUSE got a bit lost in the shuffle and that the event did not have similar benefits to the openSUSE community that previous conferences had. We would like to have one of the people organizing oSC14 at the upcoming oSC13, hopefully that can be arranged should you be interested in moving forward with the proposal and should the proposal be accepted. Thanks again for your interest. Looking forward to additional information.
