[opensuse-project] Starting up a new project, looking for help.
Hi all! I am new, so sorry if I don't do something right. I am trying to learn as much as I can as fast as I can. My name is Elijah, aka "Ham_Radio" on the forums. I am starting up a website called "openSUSEME" Pronounced similar to "open sesame" just "openSUSEME". I just started it up and am looking for some help. I am not an openSUSE or Linux expert (Yet!). The website is going to be similar to "OMG! UBUNTU" except for openSUSE. I have already paid for the domain name, which include "opensuseme.org, .net, & .com" and a server. I am asking for help to write articles, administrate the website and all. I would like News, reviews, how-to's, etc.. and all. I can give more information to those who are interested. Thanks! -- Elijah -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

While this sounds like a most commendable venture, it would have been better if you first made this request BEFORE paying for a domain name etc because I suspect that you would have been advised that it if you had all this enthusiasm busting out within you then it would be better applied in helping out with existing facilities re openSUSE which are always short of helpers willing to contribute. But that's just my 20c worth. You are absolutely right. There was attempt to create OMG!openSUSE! that worked for a while, but doesn't exist anymore, as Tyler got tired of doing all stuff by himself. Also, he had skills to keep his server up and running, so all that was needed was content. See his start: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/other-forums/community-fun/surveys-polls/... On the other hand http://www.muktware.com/ target is whole Linux that generates enough news for one site to be interesting. openSUSE has not that high potential. Also, Muktware editor travels on conferences to see the people and get interviews. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I saw that. While I don't have the time to work on this project full time, I can apply some time to it, as well as existing projects. I help administer about 6 other Wordpress sites, and a Buddypress site so all I pretty much need is the content too. I have seen Mukware, however I am hoping for more then just news. I would like How-to's, forums, and more at some point. I know I can't achieve all this on my own, and if nobody helps then it won't become all this. However I can do a little bit to help get the word out about openSUSE, and that's what my goal is. And like I said in my previous e-mail, I am very interested in helping out with existing projects. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Elijah, I'll help you out with your project. I agree that openSUSE is AWESOME and could use all the help we can get to spread that word around. I'm not sure how up-to-date this page is but, here are some junior jobs that might still be available. Just let me know what you want to do and I'll do my best to help you out! : ) http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Junior_jobs -- God bless ! Hi Henne, I looked through the "Junior Jobs", and two of them caught my eye. People of openSUSE and News. I would like to participate in the other projects, but that will have to come at a later date when I know more. Being more or less of a beginner myself, most of the stuff I write will be for beginners. Having used Ubuntu for awhile, I think that's one of the reasons why it's so popular is because it has a lot of beginner-friendly tutorials that are easy to find. So yeah, I think I would like to join the News team! Tell me what I should do to get started. :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Cool that's great. We need editors!

It isn't complicated :) Just subscribe to our team mailinglist is news+subscribe@opensuse.org and then let's discuss there what articles you want to write for beginners on http://news.opensuse.org I'm looking forward to it! :-) Henne -- Henne Vogelsang http://www.opensuse.org Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for your opinions! The entire reason behind what I am doing is because I think that openSUSE need more advertising, more people to get the word out, etc. I think that that's one of the reasons why Ubuntu is so popular is because of sites like OMG! UBUNTU! For the domain name and server, well I am really down on just the domain names as I can use the server for other projects of mine. For helping out with existing facilities, I would absolutely LOVE to help out with current projects! So if you can recommend some projects that don't require an expert with openSUSE, I would be interested in joining and helping out with those. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
