[opensuse-project] What do LUGs look for?

Hi All, We all have LUGs in our region at least most of them must be having one I suppose. My question is How do LUGs promote linux all over the world? What all things does the LUGs take under consideration? If LUGs are choosing a distro of your choice, how do LUGs go about it? -- Regards MANU -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

I know a little about my local LUG (ale.org), and below are answers for it. (note, I'm not subscribed to marketing, so expect my reply to there to bounce.) On Wed, Jun 30, 2010 at 1:20 PM, Manu Gupta <manugupt1@gmail.com> wrote:
Ours does NOT do their own install fests. They do notify the members of other people's install fests and I think some of the members routinely go to those. We have a local opensuse ambassador, so if he were to setup an install fest, he could post to the LUG and look for volunteers to help provide support.

I don't understand the question.
If LUGs are choosing a distro of your choice, how do LUGs go about it?
Ours doesn't do that. Last year we did have 3 opensuse presentations I think, but its not because the LUG specifically asked for them. Instead they were proposed by members, etc. and the LUG just accepted them. As an example I presented on OBS / Studio. Our LUG has 5 or 6 opensuse users that I know of. I'm a team member, there's the ambassador and the rest are normal users. When we (sslug.dk) do promotional events (software freedom day, install parties, other stuff), the distros we offer are roughly selected by a loose application of the following criteria in randomized order: * being the pet distro of the lug activists organizing the particular event * being reasonably reliable and end-user friendly * fitting on 1 cd * availability of gratis fancy official media We have always ended up offering 2-3 different distros, even though some people have tried to argue we should offer only Ubuntu. The biggest Ubuntu zealots don't seem to join the LUG though, instead they organize in Ubuntu specific communities (Lo-Co, own webforum), doing their own Ubuntu specific events and promotion. At least that's mostly the case in DK. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
