Well I'd love to be in the meeting too but have a similar problem - IRC doesn't work with my hopeless network connection ATM. But imho we can't stop using an efficient means of working because it doesn't work for one (or two, in this case) people, I'm afraid. I usually prefer planning over mail but it does get messy and it's slower. So I'm quite OK with an IRC meeting, even though I can't be there - as long as the results are communicated over mail and there is room for others to chime in at that point. And on that note, let me go ahead and share some stuff-I-know-about-SUSECon: - SUSE basically gives us space and help us with logistics, we can do whatever we want with the program and such. It's like getting some rooms at SCALE. Alan Clark is contact point from SUSE, any questions about "can we do X" can be directed to him. - SUSE looks for sponsors for the openSUSE side event as part of the SUSECon sponsorship but it's one SUSECon budget so we don't have to worry about getting enough sponsors. Money is reserved for community travel, food and other stuff. Offtopic but on the subject of sponsorship: those involved with oSC sponsorship will be glad to hear that this year we'll coordinate the search for sponsors for oSC with SUSECon to not get the issues we had last year with Brainshare. My boss (who is the dude responsible for SUSECon) told me about the location: - The event location has no hotel rooms so we can most likely use the it outside of office hours without trouble. - We have to use the catering on the spot but they are reasonably flexible. We could probably ask them to provide us with food that we can then cook ourselves if we want. - we start Friday, immediately after the closing session for SUSECon. Cool thing: openSUSE visitors who registered early are allowed to join sessions on Friday for free. We hope to have some SUSECon ppl stay longer to join OUR sessions, too. Following this info, a few thoughts: - As you know I love cooking and all so I was thinking - if ya'll agree, how about I organize a little bbq or something? - We should make the start of the event a really cool thing to lure in the SUSECon ppl. Maybe have some gift for all attendees at the end of that day or something... - I think we should handle travel decisions through the travel program we're setting up with the board (run by Izabel and Kostas). Of course the money is separate (coming from the SUSECon budget). - We must have a group hug. I look forward to what the IRC meetup comes up with ;-) /Jos

Can we have the meeting not IRC, I keep saying my work blocks it. Which means another SCALE problem, I am going and I want to be involved. BIG TIME!!!
Chuck, We want and need you to be involved "BIG TIME". (I love the big time enthusiasm) I was the one that suggested at the last project meeting that we hold an IRC meeting. Bryen volunteered to pull it together. So beat on me not Bryen. I felt an IRC meeting would help kick things off, as we have much to get started in a short time time frame. I recognize that not everyone can or will be at an IRC meeting. IRC isn't and won't be the only channel of communication. As was also decided at the project meeting much of the discussion will happen on the -project mailing list. I'm sure people will miss email as well so the intent is to write everything down on the wiki page [3] to identify the areas of work to be done, etc. Since you won't be able to attend the IRC meeting, add your questions, ideas and put your name on areas where you'd like to help. We'll keep the wiki page as a repository for planning, notes and decisions going forward. That way, people can refer to the wiki to keep in sync, know who's volunteered for which tasks, who to beat up when there's a call for IRC meetings, ... ;-) By the way, thank you for your help with SCALE. You were missed; particularly when we were totally swamped at the booth!
