[opensuse-project] "Legal" help for FAQ:Novell-MS
A couple of people are trying to write yet another MS-N FAQ to try to diffuse some of the misunderstandings and FUD, which continue to hurt openSUSE. http://en.opensuse.org/FAQ:Novell-MS One common misunderstanding is that Novell and MS are now friends and partners in general, can someone confirm: 1) That Novell still have litigation againt MS in the US about WordPerfect? 2) That Novell are active wrt. the current EU case against MS (mentioned here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,267898,00.html) Any other input that could help would also be appreciated. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
Hi all, I asked on Groklaw not about patents, but about copyrights in relation to Microsoft's suggested "Binding Contribution Agreement" for openSUSE ( http://www.microsoft.com/interop/msnovellcollab/community.mspx ) . I asserted that "...this provision prohibits sublicensing of Microsoft's GPL software. If this provision were to be written into any contract or license, it would put Microsoft in direct violation of GPLv2..." http://www.groklaw.net/comment.php?mode=display&sid=20070329183310903&title=Would%20Microsoft%27s%20suggested%20provision%20in%20the%20%26quot%3BBinding%20contribution%20agreement%26quot%3B%20violate%20GPLv3%3F&type=article&order=&hideanonymous=0&pid=0#c551649 Brett Smith responded: "I definitely see the potential for trouble that you're pointing towards. However, the question of whether or not this is a GPL violation is still somewhat theoretical at this point, for a few reasons..." http://www.groklaw.net/comment.php?mode=display&sid=20070501092619462&title=Would%20Microsoft%27s%20suggested%20provision%20in%20the%20%26quot%3BBinding%20contribution%20agreement%26quot%3B%20violate%20GPLV3%3F&type=article&order=&hideanonymous=0&pid=565245#c565380 On Tue, 8 May 2007, Martin Schlander wrote:
