[opensuse-project] New channel #openSUSE-server
There was some discussion about a new server cd and server targeted kernel during the the -project meeting today. I proposed a new irc channel that is dedicated to all things server. Anyone that is interested in the server specifically I encourage you to join the channel and spread the word. I think it would be great to have a strong community around the server side of openSUSE. See you all there! Cheers, Stephen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Do you intend it to be a support channel too? (topic says "discussion and development") I've often thought that it might make sense to split the support into different, more specialized channels, since server users and desktop users are often quite different species - and I think the noise in #suse is putting off a lot of server admins. If the channel _is_ intended to be a support channel too, I think it's worth an article on news.opensuse.org. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

I think that's worth looking into. I'm not necessarily opposed to it. My only fear would be that it would get too noisy for discussing and developing the server side of it. Maybe worth giving it a try though. What does everyone else think. that's putting it accurately, and rather mildly, imho ...

in the context of server, i'm not clear how one differentiates 'support' from 'discussion' & 'development' -- or if one should. unlike #suse, which more often than not has "how do i make the lights go blinky in my app" sort of support question, (or lately the vulgar rantings of some loon ...) i'd suggest that when a sysadm is in #opensuse-server, it's likely that there's -- at best -- a lack of calrity on an issue, if not a downright problem. no, not always -- but again is the differentiation worth-it or clear? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
