I would think that is mostly because the volunteers are nose-down working on their parts of the project or their solutions. Do not lose heart, I think things are happening. I am getting ready to do an article for openSUSE News about this project, which is why I am trying to find out more about what is happening, who is doing what, and what their progress is. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Global Moderator openSUSE Contributor YaST Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Ooops, I hit the send button before I was ready, meant to also say thank you, jdd, for your work and for offering to help with maintenance, if you are able, depending on what the final solution turns out to be. I think we can count on the Heroes and the Admins to give us guidance at the start so we can get up to speed. I expect once the final solution is arrived at, we will probably have help from someone who understands the chosen system. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Global Moderator openSUSE Contributor YaST Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I would like people at least give some hint of what they like better, to reduce the unuseful work :-) for example my "galette" proposal do not seems to be very popular, nobody cared to subscribe there in even in galette a module to generate random data for experiment, here the admin view: https://www.cjoint.com/doc/19_03/ICbhUlY11Dh_Screenshot-20190301-084547.png jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I was not aware you were running a test. "Subscribe" had me confused, but I guess it means "sign up". The requirement to fill in address, zip and city seems silly, but I just wrote some garbage. anybody can create an account, an admin can later give a "role"

it's initially to non profit organization, there address is mandatory. I wonder if the new european regulations wont make some sort of them necessary, to identify somebody (not sure)
When I tried to login to change my password, I received a 404.

I did, you should see a user "cboltz" ;-) but I didn't have time to look at more details yet, and also won't have time during the next days [1]. Feel free to give me admin permissions so that I can test a bit more next week. On a somewhat related note: You probably know that TSP (travel support) is running on the connect.o.o server. I'm in concact with Ancor to get it moved to a separate server, but - carnival first ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz [1] One of my offline hobbies is carnival. I'll drive a big trailer on carnival parades on the next 4 days, so please don't expect too many mails from me until ash wednesday ;-) --

Yes, one of the things we need to take care of before Connect is finally shut down. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Global Moderator openSUSE Contributor YaST Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Sorry, I think I had better get testing that. Been preoccupied with non-openSUSE things this past week. I should have tested earlier, my apologies. I recommend considering CleanTalk ( https://cleantalk.org ) as a spam solution; we implemented for LinuxFest Northwest this year, after being inundated with hundreds of fake accounts originating in Russia (?!?) over the course of a single week. It was easy to implement, has open source toolkits in most languages, and is very reasonably priced, without the annoyance (and other baggage) of things like Captchas (which don't work against humans ;-) - -- James Mason <jmason@suse.com> SUSE -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEzBAEBCAAdFiEEg/RjZ+RraZBnLRN4GzlRiGxEkCMFAlx5XWAACgkQGzlRiGxE kCNHfQf/dC0O0A6VBXVhh1Bk7BeNUQLMCMsnpc5zpF15ez9rcn6w6VGSmM0G1UBB 2qIqPQw9zHUjTSyXbg94j20SYFNE66mol90djReyGbzzAXK7HSQDn3WuSIi47M8J /ZmGdhjWphxj0LAL3+6jZfoZXWpc/4lPmUKj10WXEJVmoNt/rQuCrK+QeBIVF2DX k1NfhLRkIFhRogGtXCwTjaVtkyhnRPv7mHbCO328O9Aqj3ELrr8+TZsPZXLEJtYc 9sPqGfBXzM8P+BZcH2fL6J05zGqoFJYdEZ24Vj0QVP1PuaH3iF5/iYBhW6otn88p 4oaTqi4ElGuOjQFYtTWBbAnuyR9wNA== =Qy9P -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Implementing any of that exceeds my capabilities. I don't know if I have permissions, maybe I do: but I simply do not know the platform. Me doing such a thing is high risk. Maybe user validation needs to be done by Microfocus, not connect, because the user verification is theirs. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Thanks, James. Definitely something to look into once we are setting up the new system, depending on what the Team ultimately chooses. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Global Moderator openSUSE Contributor YaST Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, thank you Carlos and Stefan for a job well done. I think you two deserve a big round of applause.

Your main concern was the spam, and you have done well. Just as a progress report: I'm now at page 160 of the users directory (newest first, 10 per page) at checking and banning SPAM accounts. But actually the ones back there do not really matter, because they do not turn up on the front page and thus are never seen (non-logged-in cannot browse the users list AFAICT and logged in at least would have to actively search for a user to find a spam account), so I will basically shift down to just watching the front page and treating new spammers accordingly. I have not seen new spammers creating groups yet, this seems to have been only a few some years back that had specialized on the elgg platform AFAICT, and they are deleted already. -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

How do you detect those? :-? Funny names?

I deleted some at the start that seemed recent, but not much. And some polls. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)
