Okay Per, if your main priority is to work with us together, we can
talk live in the bar or something.
Adrien, my main/only priority is the openSUSE community. If my own wiki
articles and amendments end up somewhere else, it does not hurt me, but
I worry it might hurt the community (not that my writings are all that
amazing).
I understand where you're coming from and must admit that we could've communicated this a lot better than we did judging by the response. However, we did made some early announcements prior to this thread in which we did explain our intentions (we started here: https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/doc@lists.opensuse.org/thread/V4Z7Q... and Adrien made a post on Project here: https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/project@lists.opensuse.org/thread/3...). We still working out a few issues on our side as well, but our intentions are not what some people here try to position it as. This project - unlike some other, newer projects - are not walled off from the rest of the community or the project and that has never been our intention. If the message translated that way we need to revisit our ways we communicate or could it be that we touched on a nerve that made everyone feel emotional and act on such bases ganging up on Adrien. Mind you, Adrien is not the only person doing this project and we've been together in this since we started last year and he is indeed has some excellent ideas and points. Dismissing him or treating him in a way few individuals did in this thread is not fair as - correct me if I'm wrong - the "accusations" (probably not the right word) are based on assumptions and emotional reactions instead of gathered facts. This takes us back to the way we should've started this, but oh well.. it is out there already and not much we can do about that other than try and explain as best we can and mitigate the problem. Just to address a few things: - Our intention is not to make the wiki disappear or to get take over existing docs in a hostile manner, but to enhance documentations and change it up a bit in a way that it is updated regularly, maintained and articles are reviewed. - You don't like or want to use the method we introduce that is fine, but that doesn't mean that we can't work together. Let me give an example: You write up something on the wiki or in man page or something you could just throw at us and we could link to it on our side or "import" it in a way that suits both of us and vice versa. This sure is a lot of work tho, but not impossible. If there is a will... - Our method is too complex, too many steps, don't like git: write your docs in a note and send it to us in a mail on https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/doc@lists.opensuse.org/ if you want to. We take care of the markdown side of it and coordinate with you if that is suitable or not and give proper attributions. This is just a crazy idea of mine, but it is doable. - Don't like markdown. Fair enough, I dislike the wiki markup language and a lot of other things. We're not the same and we like different things, but that doesn't mean that one or the other is better or worse. - Can't log in using my openSUSE ID: we're in the process of moving to code-o-o that will mitigate this problem. When we started there was no code-o-o, sorry. https://code.opensuse.org/project/docs-o-o Hope this helps a bit and put a stop to characterizing us like some hostile "wannabes". We're people like anyone else, we're volunteers like everyone else. If we hurt feelings I sincerely apologies, let us try and fix this and better the project docs together.
But I think we are not compatible for text-base interactions so I'll
let it go. You won't get any written reply from me ever again unless
through mediation.
The mind boggles. In thirtytwo years of using email and other
text-based systems, communicating with people around the globe, I have
never ever met anyone who felt "incompatible" with me. Meeting up in
person has always improved relations, no doubt about that, but
communications has also always worked just fine without it.
Text based communications are taking out of the equation a big chunk of what FOSS is about: people. Until you see only a nick/avatar it is different to interact until you see someone in person hence we usually try and suggest video calls to get to know each other and figure our differences and find a common ground.
I admit however, I am utterly frustrated at your lack of response to
questions and concerns expressed here on the list, right from the
beginning.
I also admit I find it extremely arrogant to ignore subtle hints about
top-posting and just persevere.
