[opensuse-project] New members running for board

Hi all, as far as I can see the "new" membership process is still under rework. As there are three board seats open and people needed to fill them (and do the work included) I wanted to know: Is joining openSUSE and directly running for board something totally inappropriate? Or would it be worth the work stepping up and writing some words of intentions and plans? Would be great to hear you thoughts.
