In your system the party that has more unpopular candidates wins as the votes accumulate on the few acceptable ones. You can't compare the results for both parties if you allow people to vote for both at the same time.
Everyone could vote for everything - the options were only grouped. The winners were picked purely by their numbers, not by the group they are in.
