you can find what we have so far as a proposal for a new browser start page for the openSUSE distribution. Currently there is only the 'net-version', no support for 'disconnected' computers.
Please give us some feedback about the general appearance and the link collection. Does it meet the goal to five people a good and attracting start to openSUSE? What do you think?
Looks good to me, but I don't like the "in your Box" text. How about "Have a lot of fun!" instead?
Mmmm yah, I don't like the "in your Box!" text either. Why? Well, it's a phrase that could be "misinterpreted" by some people. I spend a lot of time in my day-to-day job trying to make sure that text in software interfaces has as little accidental slang as possible.. you know where a word or phrase is entirely innocent in one dialect, but makes the immature among us snicker when coming at it from another dialect, or even worse, in another language ( http://www.i18nguy.com/translations.html a bit over the top compared to this, but it still illustrates the point well ). This phrase would probably fail that test. The standard openSUSE catch phrase "Have a lot of fun!" is better, and more consistent since you see it elsewhere in the distro. Alternatively... "in your computer" or? "on your computer" or? something else? I guess it depends on what the intent of the "in your Box!" actually is. Or we could just leave "in your Box!" :-) Otherwise, it looks great. Nice and clean. A small tweak for netbook resolutions and I think it's a massive step up from previous.
