These numbers are not really related to the number of users.
Replace 'not really' by 'absolutely not' . Neither are they related to quality of the distro.
To emphasize that here's something I came across a while ago:
Project leader of some small Debian-based distribution explains how he's pushing up the numbers at DW. https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?t=5985
So I guess it's safe to assume that many others are doing the same. It's all about the clicks, baby.
There are a couple of things that also don't help us with clicks, firstly its been pretty well shown that release announcements generate significant numbers of clicks tumbleweed has none of these a year, where as Leap gets 2 (1 Beta), compare that to ubuntu which including its ltss releases generated 8 announcements last year. At the same time newer distro's people haven't heard of before also get a boost because half the point of the site is to learn about distro's you haven't heard of so newer distro's can get more clicks that way. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
