This is similar to what RedHat does (or used to do).
It was pretty straight forward: "Enigma" was a known release, and the name could be used interchangeably for the version number.
On the console, the prompt was something like:
RedHat 7.2 (Enigma) Login:
So for us, why not:
openSUSE 11.2 (Asparagus) Login:
And something similar on the default *dm login screens?
No fuss, no muss, and it doesn't overcomplicate things, which I think we might be doing here.
I thought the decision was to drop Major.Minor numbering because they are misleading? May have misunderstood. Cheers
