I hope the explanation helps. And sorry for no better news for box lovers. If we'd seen a way to sell again many boxes in a profitable way we definitely would. Our Exec's would love this as with that openSUSE directly could sponsor the openSUSE project.
Some have said they would buy the box if it included the complete admin book. Others would like to buy the book alone. Or you could sell the book with a DVD included - ie, the other way round.
Me, I would prefer a delivery of the box a month later than the download - with patches included. Some have said..., Me, I would prefer... Those are expression I slightly struggle as we need many if not the mayority of users to want something and then go an buy a box again. Manuals for example, we asked at least twice in openSUSE surveys (espcially prior to removing the costly printed admin guide) and manuals always were rated last in in the list of "what's important for you".
I'm sure some people would buy a book with the DVD. I just doubt there are enough to make this effort profitable. And don't forget there are already books on the market doing the same concept. And from 11.1 on I guess more will do so as our new licence allow eactly this - write a book about openSUSE, add a openSUSE DVD and publish it. No approval needed. And maybe publishers are better in this as we would be. So let them this market and concentrate on our strength - building a Linux distribution. Best Michl
