Or every x months/years anyone will start a thread with a magic solution to the versioning. Maybe 1 year will not be fun enough, so someone will suggest a 8months or 6 months concept to be sincronized with major DE's release.
In a way I do agree with you, because changing every release the rules of game won't take us nowhere and this stuff can really undermine our efforts; we can't Marketing failures to influence the engineering part of the distribution... period, full stop! Someone within SUSE as main sponsor should stop this non-sense discussions and should hold this for as much time as required with the aim of gathering relevant data information regarding our user base and their real needs; Until we have objetive and reliable data on this, we're risking the credibility and work of a large community because of marketing failures. Keep in mind this discussion started because of marketing buzz failures.
