Though, if you are not sure where bug comes from, software itself, or underlaying libraries, then you will publish software anyway, with hope that new round will reveal something.
And that is where the problem lies. These problems are strictly for developers, pushing it to testing is a complete waste of resources and good will. It needs to sit in some sort of work-in-progress repository or be masked in a way.
When you use word tester you mean average computer user able to report problem, but not to help much. The other side of the sectrum is guy that is software developer. He is not necessarily familiar with software in question, but when required he can use debugging tools. Situations where something doesn't work are common when you try to synchronize few thousands software titles. Some configurations will work, some will fail. I use openSUSE becasue they still have very small number of problems, comparing to others. [1] For instance, OpenOffice is for me no-no in KDE4 desktop. Reason is nvidia driver for legacy chipsets (FX 5200). What happen is when OOo window has focus, and mouse pointer is anywhere on the desktop outside the OOo window, it will wreck havoc. When OOo window has no focus all comes back to normal. If one would be very strict OOo will not go out until that is fixed. Many users have graphic that is based on legacy GPUs, so bug affects a lot of people. Nvidia interest is to fix first bugs in drivers for current hardware, so legacy is after that. You can't let all the people wait until bug that affects only KDE4 users with legacy Nvidia graphic, is solved.
