RE: [suse-programming-e] GCC 4: when will it be default?
I don't know if this will make it past the gatekeeper with the attachment. It's a small html file with a table of running some performance measurements on GCC 3.3.5 and GCC 4.0.1.
You can find both a document discussing the tests, and the code at

"Next release" is the next SUSE Linux release, currently planned to be named 10.0. SLES 9 will stay with gcc 3.3. SLES 10 will have a gcc 4 compiler. It is not yet clear whether gcc 4.1 or 4.0 series will be used. Ciao, Marcus

The designation "SP" seems rather cynical to me. SuSE have consistently put out a significantly improved distribution with every release since 5.2. These are not merely bug fixes, and driver upgrades. They are genuinely distinct, innovative and progressive products. Bug fixes, driver updates and application updates are consistently backported and freely available within reason. -- Regards, Steven

For SLES, i.e. the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, this is a correct question, since we offer SLES customers service packs on a regular Basis. Philipp
