"Next release" is the next SUSE Linux release, currently planned to be named 10.0. SLES 9 will stay with gcc 3.3. SLES 10 will have a gcc 4 compiler. It is not yet clear whether gcc 4.1 or 4.0 series will be used. Ciao, Marcus

The designation "SP" seems rather cynical to me. SuSE have consistently put out a significantly improved distribution with every release since 5.2. These are not merely bug fixes, and driver upgrades. They are genuinely distinct, innovative and progressive products.
