newbie...javac:command not found...
hi, I know JAVA is installed on my machine...Yes, i just installed SuSE 8.2 and i got the following info from the shell, shin0135@linux:~/03fall/cs4531_se/pro2> find /usr -name java -print /usr/lib/java find: /usr/lib/man-db: Permission denied /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.1/jre/bin/java /usr/share/java find: /usr/share/locale/pt: Permission denied /usr/include/gnu/java /usr/include/java here is the problem. I couldn't compile java program...yes, as i said in the title, it just gives, bash:javac:command not found. what should I do...? I'm a totally newbie....I'll appreciate your help... You appear to have the Java Runtime Enviroment of your machine, but apparently not the Software Development Kit (of which the Java compiler (javac) is a part). Go back to the disks and look for the Java SDK and install it, then see how you go. --

You have only the JRE installed, which allows you to run Java programs. But you don't have the JDK, which is required to compile and make Java programs. Go to Sun's site and download the Java 2 SDK for Linux and install that. You should be compiling java programs soon :) -Vale
