I have just 7.1 installed on a 8600 about a week ago. Still trying to figure out what everything is. (Sorry, if it's not mac classic, I'm lost) Most of what you guys are saying is gibberish to me. I used to think I catch on fast, but... I'm not interested in using it as a desk top, just a server, web and file, and fire wall. Headless would be nice. I have used Apple Share IP (ok) and have OS X 1.2 (junk, red headed step child!) I am looking to set it and forget it. (yea, I know. But I can dream, can't I?) My questions are: 1. What is the difference in 7.1 and 7.3. I finally got this installed and am wondering what I am missing with the new version. 2. How can I change the resolution of the monitor? Everything is so big! I am using the KDE desk top. With the others, I just keep getting errors and crashing. 3. The manual doesn't tell you everything. What would be a good text book to get that doesn't talk like I need another dictionary to decipher it? Thanks in advance! Any and all input is greatly appreciated! -- Thank You, George "do it now. "Running Linux" from O'Reilly is the best I know. If you only want to set up a server, it may be overkill, but it really got me going with Linux. Later on, you may want more specialized books, but "running Linux" does give you references for further reading. There is a newer KDE and GNOME, looks a bit nicer etc. It ships with openoffice and realplayer. installaion might work a bit better, but that depends also on the Mac... And all the server packages have newer versions, check the changelog of the services you want to provide ;)
2. How can I change the resolution of the monitor? Everything is so big! I am using the KDE desk top. With the others, I just keep getting errors and crashing.
You should update sax2 and configure XFree86 4, that should be a bit faster ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/supplementary/X/suse71/4.1.0/sax2-4.3-20.ppc.rpm If you want to stick with Xfree86 3 because the basic setup is easier, try that short howto: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/olh_ppc_framebuffer.html

As already said, get a good Linux book. Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
