At one time I tried SuSE 7.3 on a much older PPC601 model which didn't work out well enough to keep. But I like SuSE overall, hence my desire to continue with it on this box.

On the other hand, if it doesn't, then perhaps I should list it on eBay and replace it with an AMD Opteron or something similar....

You should be good for that machine with either SLES 9 or the new OpenSuSE 10 out now. SuSE has been supporting IBM's PPC for quite sometime now. One of the reasons IBM lends a bit of support SuSE's way too. You know it's the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours". ;o) Let us know how it works out.
