greetings, i've just gotten to get a 2nd hand apple TiB G4 550MHz (don't know what video chipset on it: ati rage mobility m6, i guess) and soon i'll be having one of the latest models with the 800MHz cpu (ati radeon 7500 onboard). being myself a linux user (i can see my very first set of official suse 5.2 cds resting on the shelf by me) i was wondering if there's some mas o menos complete information available on how to get these machines working with linux. i've not been able to find out much, set alone that the 550mhz being an older model's better support that the newest (smart guy, myself!). do you have any pointers or any adviceable reading for this very first time linuxppc user? thank you, francesco

complete information available on how to get these machines working with linux. i've not been able to find out much, set alone that the 550mhz being Mandrake 8.2 will work on those machines for sure. SuSE 7.1 will also, according to their own website. All you need now is to either download the two Mandrake Cds or hook the TiBook up with an internet connection and do an ftp install (tried it myself for about a week). But if you want to save yourself a lot of headache get the latest 7.3 SuSE distribution. You'll get 8 Cds of Linux and the install is almost a no-brainer. And once you got Linux up and running there's probably not much of a difference to any other SuSE experience.
an older model's better support that the newest (smart guy, myself!). do you have any pointers or any adviceable reading for this very first time linuxppc user? thank you, Check www.penguinppc.org for more info on distributions if you like.
