KMail does not work on (suse)linux/ppc
Hi!
As I remember some time ago, there was a discussion, that kmail from
KDE2.2 didn't work an SuSE for PowerPC. As this wasn't fixed in KDE 2.2.1
I have filed a bugreport to the KDE project. However they seem not to be
very cooperative.
So I would like to know if I am the only one with this problems, if there
is a easy workaround, and if someone from SuSE could look into this.

I just installed kde 2.2.1 for SuSE 7.0 on PowerPC. Kmail dos not start because the of following error:
~ > kmail kmail: error in loading shared libraries: /opt/kde2//lib/libkdecore.so.3: R_PPC_REL24 relocation out of range
Kmail of KDE 2.1.2 did work fine. I didn't have 2.2 installed. As I remember this problem (but in KDE 2.2) was discussed on the SuSE-ppc mailinglist, but as this bug seems not to be fixed, it would be nice if someone from kde/kmail could look into it.
Why from kde/kmail? The SuSE-ppc RPMs were created by SuSE and I don't even have a PowerPC so I can't help you. Please complain to SuSE about trouble with their RPMs. Regards, Michael Haeckel _______________________________________________ Kmail Developers mailing list Kmail@mail.kde.org http://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kmail ------------------------------------------------------- -- Microsoft is to operating systems & security .... .... what McDonalds is to gourmet cooking

They're right, I'm afraid. They just deliver the source code, compiling it on ppc is done by SuSE. Anyway, I had the same problem when I first tried to install KDE 2.2. After a few days, however, SuSE put new RPMs on their FTP site. They worked (well, there were still a few applications that threw up the error you mention, but nothing as crucial as kmail any more). Since this happened some weeks ago, there may even be newer (and better) versions available now. It seemed like some compiler flag hadn't been set as it ought. Try getting the most current RPMs and reinstalling KDE (the whole thing). If this doesn't help, I'm out of my depth...
